NORTH ATTLEBORO - A local man with a long history of collecting and distributing child sexual abuse material and videos of animal cruelty has been sentenced to five years in federal prison, authorities told our partners at The Sun Chronicle.
Samuel E. Maigret, 29, was also sentenced Tuesday by a U.S. District Court Judge in Providence to 10 years of federal supervised release after he gets out of prison, Acting U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island Sara Minor Bloom said.
Federal prosecutors had recommended a prison sentence of eight to 10 years.
Maigret pleaded guilty in April 2024 to distribution of child pornography, receipt of child pornography, possession of child pornography, access with intent to view child pornography, distribution of an “animal crush” video, and transfer of obscene material.
No plea arrangement was filed.
Animal crush videos depict serious harm to animals and considered obscene.
Maigret was arrested in September 2021 when he was living in Pawtucket.
A court-authorized search of his residence and personal digital devices led to the discovery of roughly 3,000 videos and images depicting child sexual abuse, including videos of adult males involved in sexual acts with infants, and evidence that Maigret used online applications to distribute the materials and a video that depicts an individual causing serious injury to, and the apparent death of, a dog.
Maigret had been free on $10,000 unsecured bond and confined to his home with a GPS monitoring bracelet.
He was prohibited from having unsupervised contact with anyone under age 18, according to court records.
