NORTH ATTLEBORO & PLAINVILLE - North Attleboro voters will have plenty of candidates to choose from when they head to the high school on April 4 to select the nine-member town council.
Thirteen candidates returned papers by the deadline and their names will be on the ballot in less than seven weeks. Incumbents Mark Gould, Darius Gregory, Justin Pare, Andrew Shanahan, John Simmons and Andrea Slobogan are seeking reelection.
Daniel Donovan, who was appointed last year to fill the seat vacated when JoAnn Cathcart, will also be on the ballot.
The other six seeking seats on the council are Blake Buchanan, Rachel Cady-Welch, John Costello, Charles Dobre-Badobre, Patricia St. Pierre and Aiden Prescott.
Patrick Reynold decided not to run for reelection and current town councilor Kathleen Prescott has opted for one of the two seats on the school committee.
The school committee ballot will feature six candidates: Zach Achin, Marjorie Avarista, J. Gideon Gaudette, Prescott, incumbent Sarah Stone and Aaron Whirl.
John Costello, who filled Jim McKenna’s seat late last year is stepping off the committee to run for council.
There is only one candidate, Gregg Ellis, running for the sole slot on the electric commission after incumbent Dale Langille decided not to run again.
Incumbent Donald Cerrone is the only candidate for the one seat on the board of public works. And incumbents Tom Difiore and John Ruppert are the lone candidates running for the two seats on the park commission.
Plainville’s election will be held on April 3, one day before North Attleboro residents cast their ballots.
There will be three races to decide that first Monday in April.
Maggie Clarke will challenge incumbent select board chair Stanley Widak for the lone seat up for grabs on that board.
Two residents are running to serve the town on the King Philip school committee: Daniel Amicone and incumbent Gregory Wehmeyer.
Tina Desprez and Thomas McHugh are seeking the lone five-year seat on the planning board.
Robert Davis, who decided not to run for reelection on the planning board, will be the lone candidate on the board of health.
Jennifer Lynn Maloney-Plante is the only person running for the Plainville school committee, Paula LaMontagne-Mealy is alone in seeking the seat on the board of library trustees, Jason Morneau is the lone resident wanting to serve on the park commission and Assistant Town Clerk Cynthia Bush is in position to take over for current Town Clerk Ellen Robertson, who decided to retire after 15 years in that position.
