North students awarded for naming recycling containers

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The town’s solid waste department and North TV have teamed up for a number of years to help residents better know the rules of recycling.

Coloring contests for students in kindergarten through fifth grade with a Reduce, Reuse, Recycling theme for was held in past years.

Solid Waste Director Laura Munson wanted to try something new this spring.

Instead of coloring, students were asked to submit names for six of the large containers at the recycling center on Mt. Hope St.

The number of submissions was overwhelming.

A standing room only crowd of students, parents and family members crowded the department of public works’ meeting room Monday night for the awards ceremony.

Munson, Missy Hollenback of the Mass. Department of Environmental Protection, Town Manager Michael Borg and North TV President Ron Lagasse offered words of praise to the students for their creativity.
