Plans set for local MLK commemoration

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The MLK Memorial Committee of Greater Attleboro will host its 36th annual commemoration of the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, January 16 with two commemorative programs.

The municipal program begins at 1 p.m. at Attleboro City Hall and will feature local and state representatives and local poet Crystal Y. Brown-Battle.

At 2 p.m., the committee will hold an interfaith service at the Second Congregational Church, at 50 Park Street, in Attleboro.

The service will feature keynote speaker Boston NAACP President Tanisha Sullivan, Esq. and performances by Nzinga’s Daughters, a five-woman musical ensemble from New Britain, CT; poet Tarah Agathe Van, from Brockton; and pianist Daniel Hill, of Providence.

MLK Memorial Committee of Greater Attleboro Chair Ethel Garvin was in the North TV studio on Thursday for a recording of “Inside Look” to discuss the two events.
