Test 3

Plainville override defeated

PLAINVILLE - Voters Monday (June 29) overwhelmingly defeated a $3.25 million override of the state's Proposition 2 1/2 limiting law.

More than 2,500 residents, almost 37 percent of all registered voters, turned out for the special election, which coincided with the town's annual election, originally scheduled for April 6.

The vote was 1,479 in opposition toi the override and 1,030 for raising the additional taxes needed to spare up to 38 school employees, six firefighters and five police officers.

Stanley Wydak (who was elected to a three-year term of the board of selectmen), Town Administrator Jennifer Thompson, Lauren Saunders (elected to a three-year term on the Plainville school committee) and Selectmen Chair Jeff Johnson discussed the failed override during North TV's live election results.
