NORTH ATTLEBORO - Longtime educator Dr. Anne Howard received a retirement celebration she never could have imagined a few months ago.
The town resident was most recently a professor in the education department and chair of the graduate program in severe disabilities at Fitchburg State University, where she worked for the past 28 years.
Before Fitchburg, she served as a research assistant at the Shriver Center in Waltham and then as a senior research assistant at the Institute for Health Policy and the Starr Center, both at Brandeis University - where she earned her doctorate.
Family, friends and students surprised Howard by organizing a parade of more than 40 cars Wednesday (May 13) afternoon in her honor, gathering at the Hockomock Area YMCA's North Attleboro branch before stepping off the parade down the street from her house on Broadway.
