Smoking likely cause of Plainville fatal fire

PLAINVILLE - A late afternoon fire last Friday claimed the life of a Plainville man.

Mark Beyersdorfer, 68, of 61 School Street died in the fire which engulfed the single-family ranch. Authorities announced this week the fire was most likely caused by smoking.

The state Fire Marshal’s office announced Monday smoking materials and medical oxygen equipment were found at the scene.

Our partners at The Sun Chronicle reported Beyersdorfer’s sister, who did not want here named used in their story, said her brother used a wheelchair but was also capable of walking around his home.

North TV spoke to Plainville Acting Fire Chief Robert Skinner Wednesday about the fatal fire.
