Steel's game-winner earns POTW honors

ATTLEBORO - The North TV sports crew was, once again, busy last week with five games in five nights.

We were inside North Attleboro’s Pickering Gymnasium Tuesday night for the Red Rocketeers’ 36-9 rout of Stoughton on the wresting mat. The margin would have been higher but North opted not to accept the points the Black Knights gave up when they had to forfeit a number of weight classes.

Our crew was in the King Philip gym Wednesday night for the Warriors’ 53-20 crushing of Canton in girls’ basketball.

Thursday’s girls’ game at Bishop Feehan was much closer. The Shamrocks pulled out the win with a three-pointer in the closing seconds to defeat Worcester's South High Community School 47-44.

We were back at KP Friday night for another girls’ game. The Warriors made it a perfect week with a 54-42 victory over Franklin.

Girls’ Hockey was on our Community Channel schedule Saturday. King Philip blanked Mansfield 5-0 at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Our Player of the Week was the one who hit the big shot in Feehan’s win over South High, Maddy Steele. The 5’8” senior guard from North Attleboro hit the game-winner from the right win with less than a second remaining. Steel scored her 1,000th career point four nights later in 66-11 crushing of Cardinal Spellman.

Maddy will receive a copy of Thursday’s win over South High on a USB drive and a North TV Player of the Week t-shirt in Bishop Feehan green.

We’ll announce our Player of the Week for this week next week at this time.
