NA budgeting for decrease in state aid

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The impact of COVID-19 was a key factor when the town manager and his staff prepared a budget proposal for the new fiscal year that will begin on July 1.

Town Manager Michael Borg presented the budget during Monday (May 11) night's meeting of the town council.

The proposed budget would level fund operations as close as possible to the FY20 budget appropriations and would use certified free cash to offset a funding shortfall. The plan also includes a three-year recovery strategy.

Borg told the council that state aid is estimated to be a minimum of 10 percent or $2.3 million less than the amount the town received this year and that the percentage could be as high as 30.

In spite of those numbers, the town manager is confident the town - with certification of free cash at $2.6 million - is well positioned to withstand and move through FY21.
