NORTH ATTLEBORO - The Emerald Square Mall has new owners.
Town Manager Michael Borg briefly mentioned the news about the town's largest taxpayer while reporting to the town council during the board’s biweekly meeting Monday night.
A spokesman for JLL, a Chicago-based management company that’s been running the 30-year-old mall since it was placed in receivership by the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts in November of 2022 declined to comment when contacted by The Sun Chronicle.
“At this time we have nothing to share…” Sarah Kern wrote in a query by the newspaper.
Borg has hinted over the past months that a sale might be pending and the town is working with mall owners on a change to its zoning laws to allow a mix of retail and residential uses on the property.
The Emerald Square Mall was once the top grossing mall in the northeastern United States.
