NAHS artificial turf damaged, field closed for spring sports

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The artificial turf at the high school's Beaupre Field is closed after it was damaged by students liftng weights on the synthetic surface.

The disclosure was made during Monday night’s hybrid meeting of the town council by president Keith Lapointe. "It was being used for something it shouldn’t have been," Lapointe said in a response to a question by councilor Kathleen Prescott.

The synthetic surface was installed less than three years ago at a cost of more than $1.2 million.

Stands on the home and visiting sides of the field were deemed unsafe in the spring of 2019. Money to replace the stands is included in the town's budget for fiscal year 2022.

It may take up to 18 months before new bleachers are installed.
